Hey there!

Welcome to your daily dose of curated early-career opportunities! Your job search shouldn’t feel confusing, late, or based on luck.

Here's what nobody tells you about the job search: it's not about applying to more jobs. It's about being first.

The same role LinkedIn shows you 3-5 days from now is already sitting in a pile of 500 applications. Runway pulls jobs straight from company career sites the moment they post, so you see them first, when there are 15 applicants, not 500.

Who sees the role and applies first is the whole game.

Landing the job is step one. Once you're in, a huge part of your success, and your happiness, comes down to your relationships with the people around you. Early-career people often focus so hard on the work that they neglect this, but the coworker relationships you build shape your reputation, your opportunities, and how much you actually enjoy going to work. Here's how to do it well.

Understand why this matters

Your relationships at work aren't just nice-to-haves. The people you work with influence how your contributions are seen, whether you get pulled into good projects, and who advocates for you when opportunities come up.

Being good at your job gets you in the door. Being someone people genuinely like working with is what keeps you moving forward. Both matter, and the second one is often underrated.

Start by listening and observing

When you're new, resist the urge to immediately assert yourself. Spend your early weeks learning the team, how people communicate, what the dynamics are, who does what.

Being a good listener who's genuinely interested in understanding the team makes a far better first impression than someone who comes in loud with opinions. Absorb first, contribute second.

Be genuinely helpful

One of the fastest ways to build goodwill is to be someone who helps. Offer to pitch in, take on the unglamorous task, support a coworker who's slammed.

Being reliable and generous with your help early builds a reputation as a team player, and people remember who had their back. It pays off in relationships and in how you're perceived.

Take a real interest in people

Get to know your coworkers as humans, not just colleagues. Ask about their weekends, their interests, their paths. Remember the details.

You don't have to become best friends with everyone, but genuine interest in people builds real connection. Coffee chats, lunch, or just friendly conversation go a long way toward making you someone people enjoy having around.

Connect beyond your immediate team

Don't limit yourself to the people you work with directly. Get to know folks across other teams and levels too.

A broad set of relationships within the company makes work more enjoyable and expands your internal network, which matters when you're looking to grow, move teams, or get recommended for something. The wider your good relationships, the more doors stay open.

Be reliable and easy to work with

Nothing builds a relationship faster than being someone people can count on. Do what you say, hit your deadlines, communicate clearly, and don't create drama.

Being low-maintenance and dependable makes people want to work with you. Reliability is quietly one of the most valued traits in any workplace, and it's entirely within your control.

Handle conflict with maturity

Disagreements will happen. How you handle them shapes your relationships and reputation. Stay calm, professional, and solution-focused, don't get petty or defensive.

Being someone who can navigate friction gracefully earns real respect, and it protects the relationships you're building. One handled-well conflict can strengthen a relationship rather than damage it.

Don't force it, be authentic

You don't have to be the most social person or fake a personality that isn't you. Genuine, consistent, respectful interactions matter more than being the office extrovert.

Be yourself, be kind, be reliable, and let relationships develop naturally over time. Authentic connections are the ones that last.

Do this today: This one's for when you start (or if you've recently started), make it a goal to have one real conversation with a coworker beyond work tasks this week, and to help someone out without being asked. Small, genuine gestures are how strong workplace relationships begin.
