Answering questions may get you considered.
But asking questions is why you get hired.
Most candidates focus only on answering questions well.
The best candidates ask questions that make hiring managers think, "We need this person."
Your questions demonstrate your research, interest, and intelligence.
Don't waste this powerful opportunity.
Here are 17 questions that will make you stand out in your next interview:
About the Role:
- What does success look like in the first 90 days?
- How has this role evolved over time?
- What are the biggest challenges facing the team right now?
- How is performance measured in this role?
About the Team & Culture:
- What's your management style?
- How does the team work together?
- What does collaboration look like between departments?
- What do you enjoy most about working here?
About Growth & Development:
- What learning opportunities are available?
- How do people develop here?
- Where have past people in this role gone?
About the Company:
- What are the company's top priorities this year?
- How does this role contribute to the company's goals?
- How has the company adapted to recent industry changes?
- What do the most successful employees here have in common?
About Next Steps:
- What's the next step in this process?
- What's your timeline for making a decision?
The power move:
- What concerns do you have about my qualifications?
This question does two things: Shows confidence that you can handle feedback. Gives you a chance to address any doubts before you leave.
Pro Tip:
Write down 5-7 questions from this list before every interview.
Ask 3-4 of them, saving the rest for follow-up interviews.
What NOT to ask:
Don't ask about salary, benefits, or time off in the first interview unless they bring it up.
Don't ask questions that are clearly answered on their website.
Don't ask "So, what does your company do?" (Do your research.)
Remember:
Don't just answer questions well.
Ask questions that make you unforgettable.
The hiring manager is evaluating you, but you're also evaluating them.
Your questions show you're thinking strategically about whether this role is the right fit.

Talk to your AI tools the way you'd talk to a colleague.
You don't send a colleague a three-word brief. You explain the context, the constraints, what you've already tried. But typing all that into ChatGPT takes forever — so you don't.
Wispr Flow lets you speak your prompts instead. Talk through your thinking naturally and get clean, paste-ready text. No filler words. No cleanup. Just detailed prompts that actually get you useful answers on the first try.
