"Entry-level, 2 years experience required." You've seen it. It feels like a wall, and it makes you think you have nothing to put on a resume. You're wrong about that.

You have more than you think. You just haven't learned to translate it.

Coursework counts when you frame it as a project

"Took Intro to Marketing" is nothing. "Built a full marketing plan for a real local business as a class project" is something. Same class. One is a transcript line, one is experience.

Pull the biggest projects from your hardest classes and write them up like jobs.

Clubs and orgs are real experience

Ran events for a club? That's project management. Handled the budget? That's finance. Grew the Instagram? That's marketing with a real result.

Stop calling it "just a club." Companies care about what you did, not whether you got paid for it.

Build the experience yourself in a weekend

This is the cheat code nobody uses. If you have no experience, go make some.

  • Want marketing? Run a real Instagram for a friend's small business and track the growth.

  • Want data? Grab a free public dataset, analyze it, write up what you found.

  • Want SWE? Build one small project and put it on GitHub.

  • Want finance? Build a stock pitch or a model and post your thinking.

A weekend project you can talk about beats an empty resume every single time. It also shows initiative, which is the thing employers actually want from juniors.

Apply anyway when you hit 70%

"2 years required" is a wish list, not a law. If you meet most of what they're asking, apply. Those requirements are written for the perfect candidate who usually doesn't exist.

The people who get hired are the ones who applied despite the gap, not the ones who talked themselves out of it.

Do this today: Open your resume and find one class project or club role you've been underselling. Rewrite it like a job, with what you did and the result. You have more experience than you're giving yourself credit for.

You got this!
