Happy Friday!
Hope you had a great Christmas!
Welcome to your daily dose of curated early-career opportunities! Your job search shouldn’t feel confusing, late, or based on luck.
Pro tip: Use Runway to see which jobs you actually have a shot at before you spend hours tailoring applications.

I see the same "Skills" section on every resume:
"Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Communication, Leadership, Teamwork"
Cool. So does every other candidate.
Recruiters don't care that you know Excel. They care that you used Excel to do something impressive.
Here's what's wrong with most skills sections:
They list tools without context. They're vague. They don't prove anything.
Instead of this:
Microsoft Excel
Data Analysis
Python
SQL
Do this:
Data Analysis: Built financial models in Excel that identified $50K in cost savings
Python: Automated data collection process, reducing manual work from 10 hours to 30 minutes weekly
SQL: Queried databases with 100K+ records to generate insights for marketing campaigns
See the difference? You're not just listing skills - you're proving you can use them to create real results.
The formula: [Skill] + [What you did with it] + [Impact/Result]
How to reorganize your skills section:
1. Pick your top 4-6 most relevant skills
Not every skill you've ever learned. Just the ones relevant to the jobs you're applying for.
2. Add one concrete example for each
What did you build, analyze, create, or improve using that skill?
3. Include numbers whenever possible
Time saved, money earned, users gained, efficiency improved - quantify it.
4. Cut the generic soft skills
"Communication" and "teamwork" belong in your experience descriptions, not your skills section. Show them through your accomplishments, don't just claim them.
What to do with basic skills everyone has:
Don't list Microsoft Word or PowerPoint unless the job specifically asks for them. It's assumed you know how to use basic software.
Do list:
Programming languages
Specialized tools (Figma, Salesforce, Tableau, etc.)
Technical certifications
Languages you speak
Do this today: Open your resume. For every skill listed, add one sentence about what you actually did with it. If you can't think of an example, remove that skill.
Make your skills section prove you can do the work, not just that you've heard of the tools.
