I've watched thousands of students use Runway.
The ones who land internships fastest all follow the same strategy.
Here's exactly what they do:
The 5-Job-Per-Day System
Step 1: Filter by last 24 hours
Every morning, filter jobs posted in the last 24 hours.
Why? Fresh jobs have way fewer applicants. Your resume actually gets seen.
Jobs posted 2 weeks ago already have 200+ applications. Jobs posted yesterday have 20.
Step 2: Only apply to 80%+ matches
Look at your match score for each job. If you're below 80%, skip it.
Runway tells you exactly why you're not a match. If you're missing key requirements, you're wasting your time applying.
80%+ match = you're genuinely qualified and have a real shot.
Step 3: Time block 1 hour every day
Set a specific time: 9-10am, 2-3pm, whatever works.
This hour is only for job applications. No distractions. No scrolling.
Consistency beats intensity. 1 hour daily is better than 5 hours on Sunday.
Step 4: Apply to exactly 5 jobs
Not 20. Not 2. Five.
Five gives you enough volume while allowing time to customize each one properly.
Step 5: Tailor your resume for every single job
This is non-negotiable.
For each job:
Read the job description carefully
Copy 5-10 key skills/requirements they mention
Update your resume to mirror that exact language
Add or emphasize relevant experience
Takes 10 minutes per job. Worth it every time.
What this looks like in practice:
9:00am - Open Runway, filter by last 24 hours
9:05am - Find Job #1 with 80%+ match, download job description
9:10am - Customize resume with their keywords and requirements
9:20am - Apply to Job #1
Repeat 4 more times
10:00am - Done. Five quality applications sent.
Why this works:
✅ Fresh jobs = fewer applicants
✅ 80%+ match = you're actually qualified
✅ Daily habit = consistent momentum
✅ 5 jobs = quality over quantity
✅ Tailored resumes = higher response rate
What doesn't work:
❌ Applying to 30 jobs in one day with the same generic resume
❌ Waiting until jobs are 2 weeks old
❌ Applying to jobs where you're 40% match
❌ Never customizing your resume
❌ Inconsistent bursts of activity
The math:
Generic approach (5hrs per week):
100 applications per week
No customization
Jobs posted weeks ago
Match scores ignored
Response rate: 1%
Result: 1 interview
Runway system (5hrs per week):
25 applications per week (5 per day × 5 days)
Every resume customized
Jobs less than 24 hours old
80%+ match only
Response rate: 10%
Result: 3-4 interviews
Same time investment. 10x better results.
Pro tips:
Set up notifications for new jobs in your categories
Keep a master resume you customize from (don't start from scratch each time)
Save your customized resumes with clear file names
Track everything in your spreadsheet
Take weekends off to avoid burnout
Do this today:
Open Runway right now.
→ Filter by jobs posted in the last 24 hours.
→ Find 5 jobs where you're 80%+ match.
→ Block 1 hour on your calendar for tomorrow morning.
→ Apply to all 5 with tailored resumes.
→ Repeat every weekday.
This is the system. It works.
