But if you only do 5 things, do these:

1. Apply within 24-72 hours of a job posting

Timing matters more than perfection. A good application on day 1 beats a perfect application on day 7.

2. Customize your resume for every job

Mirror their keywords. Match their language. Make the ATS love you. Generic resumes = no responses.

3. Add numbers to everything

Don't say "managed social media." Say "grew Instagram from 500 to 4,200 followers in 5 months." Recruiters remember numbers.

4. Follow up 48 hours after applying

Send a LinkedIn message to the recruiter with a specific question. Shows interest. Gets you noticed. Most people never do this.

5. Network with people 1-2 levels above you

Not executives. Not random strangers. Target people who graduated 1-3 years ago in roles you want. They respond and they remember what it's like to be where you are.

The honest truth:

You don't need to do everything perfectly. You need to do these 5 things consistently.

Students who land jobs aren't doing 100 different tactics. They're doing these basics better than everyone else.
