Hey there!
Welcome to your daily dose of curated early-career opportunities! Your job search shouldn’t feel confusing, late, or based on luck.
Every job on Runway has a match score. Know where you stand before you apply.
If you want clarity on today’s roles (and thousands more), check your matches here:
"What's your greatest weakness?"
Everyone freezes on this question. Because the obvious answers are all terrible:
❌ "I'm a perfectionist" (Everyone says this. It's not clever.)
❌ "I work too hard" (This sounds fake and try-hard.)
❌ "I don't have any weaknesses" (Congrats, you just failed the self-awareness test.)
But here's the trap: If you name a REAL weakness, won't that disqualify you?
Not if you do it right.
Here's the formula that actually works:
1. Name a real weakness that's not a deal-breaker for the role
2. Show you're actively working on it
3. Prove you've already made progress
Example for a marketing role:
"Public speaking used to make me really nervous. In my junior year, I avoided presenting whenever possible. But I realized that's not sustainable in marketing, so I forced myself to join a student organization where I had to pitch ideas every week. It was uncomfortable at first, but after a semester, I pitched our campaign strategy to a room of 50 people and actually enjoyed it. I'm still working on it, but I've gotten way more comfortable speaking in front of groups."
Why this works:
✅ It's a real weakness (not a humble-brag)
✅ Shows self-awareness
✅ Demonstrates initiative (you didn't wait for someone to fix it)
✅ Proves improvement (you're already better)
✅ It's not a core requirement for the role (you can do marketing without being a world-class speaker)
More good examples:
For a software engineering role:
"I used to struggle with asking for help when I was stuck on a problem. I'd spend hours debugging alone when someone could've helped me in 10 minutes. Last semester, I started using our team's Slack channel to ask questions early instead of spinning my wheels. It felt awkward at first, but now I'm way more productive and I actually help others more too."
For a finance role:
"I used to rush through Excel models without double-checking my formulas, which led to errors I'd have to fix later. After making a mistake on an internship deliverable, I started building a checklist for every model I create. It takes an extra 5 minutes upfront but saves me hours of rework. My accuracy has improved significantly."
For a data analytics role:
"I used to get so focused on the technical analysis that I'd forget my audience doesn't care about the methodology - they just want insights. In my last project, I presented a 20-slide deck full of statistical details and my professor told me he was lost by slide 3. Now I start with the 'so what' and only go into technical details if they ask. My presentations are way more effective."
What NOT to mention:
Core skills for the job (Don't say "I'm bad at data" for a data analyst role)
Character flaws ("I'm always late," "I can't work with difficult people")
Things you haven't tried to improve ("I'm bad at X and always have been")
The structure to follow:
The weakness: "I used to struggle with [specific thing]"
The impact: "This caused [problem]"
The action: "So I [specific thing you did to improve]"
The result: "Now I [how you're better, with proof]"
Do this today: Think of one real weakness you've actively worked on improving. Write out your answer using this structure. Practice saying it out loud until it sounds natural, not rehearsed.
They're not looking for perfection. They're looking for self-awareness and growth.
