Your resume sections should be in this order:
Education
Experience
Leadership/Projects
Skills
Why this order works for early career:
Recruiters hiring students and recent grads expect to see education first. It immediately tells them:
What school you're at
What you're studying
When you graduate
Your GPA (if strong)
This context helps them understand your experience section better.
What to include in each section:
Education:
School name and location
Degree and major
Graduation date (Month Year)
GPA if 3.0+ (optional if lower)
Relevant coursework (only if directly applicable to the role)
Experience:
Internships, part-time jobs, relevant work
List most recent first
2-4 bullet points per role with numbers
Focus on impact, not just tasks
Leadership/Projects:
Non-technical majors: Use "Leadership" - club officer positions, team captain roles, organizations you led
Technical majors: Use "Projects" - personal coding projects, apps you built, data analysis work, GitHub portfolio
Skills:
Technical skills relevant to the role
Software/tools you know
Languages (if relevant)
Keep it concise - only include what you can actually use
Do this today:
Open your resume. Make sure your sections are in this order: Education, Experience, Leadership/Projects (depending on your major), Skills.
Clean, standard, and exactly what recruiters expect to see.
