You just finished an interview. You think it went well. Now what?

80% of candidates do nothing. They wait and hope.

The other 20% send a thank you email within 24 hours. And they're the ones who get remembered.

Here's the thank you email that actually works:

Subject: Thank you - [Role Name] interview

Body:

Hi [Interviewer Name],

Thank you for taking the time to speak with me today about the [Role Name] position.

I'm even more excited about the opportunity after learning about [specific thing they mentioned - a project, challenge, or goal]. The work you're doing with [specific detail] is exactly what I'm looking to be part of.

Our conversation about [specific topic you discussed] got me thinking - I actually found [relevant article/resource/example] that relates to what we talked about. Thought you might find it interesting: [link]

Thanks again for your time. Looking forward to hearing about next steps.

[Your Name]

Why this works:

  • Shows you were actually listening (specific details)

  • Proves you're still thinking about the role (the extra resource)

  • Keeps you top of mind

  • Takes 3 minutes to write

What NOT to do:

  • Generic "thank you for your time" with nothing specific

  • Sending it 3 days later (do it within 24 hours)

  • Making it all about you ("I think I'd be great because...")

  • Writing a novel (keep it under 150 words)

The resource trick: This is the secret weapon. Finding and sharing something relevant shows initiative and keeps the conversation going. It can be:

  • An article related to something they mentioned

  • A case study similar to their challenge

  • A tool or resource they might find useful

Do this today: If you have an interview this week, draft your thank you email template NOW. Fill in the specifics right after your interview while it's fresh. Send it that evening or the next morning.

This small move separates you from the 80% who do nothing.
