It's Christmas Eve.

You're probably thinking about opening your laptop later tonight to send "just a few more applications."

Don't.

Here's something nobody tells you about job searching:

Non-stop grinding without breaks doesn't make you more successful. It makes you burnt out, desperate, and honestly, it shows in your applications.

I've reviewed thousands of cover letters and resumes. I can tell when someone wrote it at 2am after applying to 47 other jobs that day. The energy is off. The personalization is weak. The desperation bleeds through.

The candidates who get offers?

They're strategic. They take breaks. They recharge. They apply to fewer jobs with more intention.

What to do instead of job searching today:

1. Actually enjoy your day
Spend time with family. Watch a movie. Sleep in. Do literally anything that has nothing to do with LinkedIn or Indeed.

2. Reflect (just 10 minutes)
What's actually working in your job search? What's not? What do you want to try differently in January? Write it down.

3. Celebrate your small wins
Did you land an interview this month? Finish a project? Connect with someone in your target industry? Those count. Acknowledge them.

The truth about hiring during the holidays:

Most companies aren't even looking at applications right now. Hiring managers are out of office. Decisions are on hold until January.

You're not "falling behind" by taking a day off. You're being smart.

My challenge to you:

Close the job boards. Put your resume away. Don't check your email for interview responses.

Just for today.

The jobs will be there tomorrow. The grind will be there next week.

But today? Rest.

You've earned it.
