It's New Year's Eve.
Everyone's making resolutions: "I'm going to apply to 5 jobs a day!" "I'm going to network more!" "I'm going to finally land my dream job!"
Cool. But resolutions without a plan are just wishes.
Here's your actual game plan for landing a job in 2025:
Week 1 (Jan 1-7): Get Your Foundation Right
Don't start applying yet. Fix your basics first.
Update your resume using everything you've learned (no "responsible for," add numbers, beat the ATS)
Rewrite your LinkedIn headline to include actual skills
Create a simple spreadsheet to track applications
Set up job alerts on Runway, LinkedIn, and Indeed
Week 2-3 (Jan 8-21): Strategic Applications Begin
Now you can start applying. But do it smart.
Apply to 10-15 quality jobs per week (not 50 random ones)
Customize each resume for the specific role
Send a recruiter message within 48 hours of applying
Track everything: company, role, date applied, follow-up date
Week 4+ (Jan 22 onwards): Interview Prep + Follow-Up
By now, interview requests should start coming in.
Practice your "tell me about yourself" answer
Prepare 3-4 questions to ask interviewers
Send thank you emails within 24 hours
Follow up on applications from 2 weeks ago
The metrics that actually matter in 2025:
Forget "I applied to 100 jobs!" That's a vanity metric.
Track these instead:
Response rate: How many applications got you a reply?
Interview conversion: How many replies turned into interviews?
Offer conversion: How many interviews turned into offers?
If you're applying to 50 jobs and getting 0 responses, the problem isn't volume. It's your resume, your targeting, or both.

Between now and January 15th, I want you to:
Get your resume to a place where you're proud to send it
Apply to 10 jobs you're actually excited about (not just any job)

The truth about January hiring:
Companies have new budgets. Teams are planning Q1 hires. Recruiters are back from holiday break and actively looking at applications.
January and February are the best months to land a job.
Don't waste them by doing the same thing that didn't work in 2024.

Write down ONE thing you're going to do differently in your job search this year. Not 10 things. One thing.
