Stop saying you're "passionate" in your cover letters.

Every single cover letter I read says:

"I'm passionate about marketing..."
"I'm passionate about data science..."
"I'm deeply passionate about your company's mission..."

Everyone says this. It means nothing.

Why "passionate" doesn't work:

It's a claim without proof. Anyone can say they're passionate. What have you actually DONE that proves it?

Instead of saying you're passionate, show it:

❌ Bad: "I'm passionate about data science"

✅ Good: "I've spent the last year building predictive models in Python, including one that analyzes student loan default risk using 50K+ data points"

❌ Bad: "I'm passionate about your company's mission"

✅ Good: "I've followed your rebrand launch for 6 months and built a case study analyzing your TikTok strategy for my marketing capstone"

❌ Bad: "I'm deeply passionate about sustainability"

✅ Good: "I've organized 3 campus sustainability events, reducing dining hall waste by 40% and engaging 500+ students"

See the difference?

One is empty words. The other is proof.

Do this today:

Open your cover letter template. Find every instance of "passionate" or "hardworking." Replace it with a specific example that proves the claim.

Stop telling them who you are. Show them what you've done.
